“Emperor Haute Couture” by artist Margaret Sutherland is currently on display at a Kingston, Ont., library. The five-by-three foot oil painting depicts a naked Stephen Harper reclining on a chaise lounge with a dog between his legs while people around him stand at attention. One woman offers him a Tim Hortons coffee on a platter.
This is beautiful and grotesque in so many ways, and it can be yours for $5,000.
Stephen Harper’s spokesperson Andrew MacDougall had a sense of humour about the whole thing. On Twitter, he wrote: “On the Sutherland painting: we’re not impressed. Everyone knows the PM is a cat person.”
UPDATE: QMI reports the painting sold for its asking price over the weekend.
