German authorities arrested Luka Rocco Magnotta, wanted harasser of the prime minister, at a Berlin airport today. (UPDATE: Turns out he was arrested in an Internet café, not an airport.) Magnotta, who is also wanted for the gruesome murder and dismemberment of 33-year-old Jun Lin, left Canada for Paris on May 26, three days before a human foot showed up in the mailroom at the Conservative Party’s headquarters in Ottawa.
Magnotta, whose colourful past was the source of much media fixation last week despite being probably less bizarre and more depressingly sordid than advertised, will go before a judge on Tuesday, thus ending the “trial by columnist” phase of the case and moving into the “trial by legal system” phase.
