Live-blogging cold weather in Canada is a waste of your resources, CBC

Ever proving themselves useful as a public broadcaster, the CBC launched a live blog yesterday to keep Canadian residents abreast of developments in winter weather.

Under the headline “Winter Weather Blasts Canada: Live” the thoughtful folks over at the CBC kept readers informed throughout the day of the fact that much of Canada was experiencing “cold” weather, “windy conditions” and lots of “snow.” Temperatures in the decidedly “cold” zone were also updated throughout the day, much like the weather reports the radio used to broadcast in the olden time.

Not to be outdone, the government stooges fine folks over at CBC Community collected an assortment of wacky tweets from across the country under the headline “Some cold, eh? Canada tweets through winter blast.” Dominating the cooky collection were plenty of whinging tweets about how cold it was in Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal, complete with plenty of chilly-looking photos from sea to sea to sea.

While the camaraderie that comes from commiserating about the bitter cold with other Canadians on the Internet is a pretty neat thing (I guess), it beggars belief that sharing such banal observations about the reality that it is, in fact, winter in the northern hemisphere right now could take such a prominent spot on national news sites. It’s fucking Canada up here people!

How the fuck do you think those frozen rivers and lakes that are used to sell us everything from hockey equipment to motor vehicles to coffee got frozen in the first place? The mild, snowless chill of a Toronto winter ain’t gonna do it, buster. Nor the pissing rain of Vancouver. Not even the average Canadian winter of Montreal is truly representative of what most of Canada (at least by land-mass) suffers from January through March each winter that we aren’t winning our war of attrition against nature that those terrorist environmentalist wack-jobs lovingly refer to as “climate change.”

So buck up, Canada. And shut the front door about the weather for a while. Cold weather in the winter ain’t news; it’s fucking Canada.
