“Shock, delight, cacophony!” That’s the tag line for the Dachshund UN, which is a mock UN full of adorable dachshund dogs currently in session at the Harbourfront Centre in Toronto. It runs from Feb. 28 to March 3 and is meant to show us something about international rela— OMG, look how cute these dogs are!
The Dachshund UN is the work of Australian artist Bennett Miller, who created the show to highlight the difficulties in peacefully resolving differences among nations. It’s a show he has previously taken to the U.K. and will take to Montreal in May.
The Wednesday performance (in front of a capacity crowd of 350 people) went over pretty much like a real UN meeting, with lots of noise and nothing getting resolved.
“The United States representative was the most vocal and aggressive, often barking loudly at his companions,” reported the Canadian Press, to no one’s surprise. “Argentina’s representative was quiet and still for most of the performance, barely mustering a whimper. And Nigeria mounted Saudi Arabia for a few moments while Germany and France exchanged a few harsh barks throughout the evening.”
Dogs! They’re just like people!
