Hey, cool: ‘Confrontational’ Halifax teen tasered by police

taser

It’s been a rough week for criminals and criminal suspects in eastern Canada. Already in the last several days a Toronto was teen shot and tasered and an elderly Windsor man injured on his own property. Now, Halifax police claim they were “forced” to use a Taser on a 16-year-old fleeing a motel early this morning.

While “a 42-year-old man wielding a knife” was arrested without incident, the teenager took off running and was tasered. That didn’t stop his retreat, and police only caught him after also pepper spraying him.

There’s little other information so far; the teen was arrested on 11 charges of breach of conditions and two counts of resisting arrest, and police were initially called to the motel in search of “an arrestable youth.”

It’s far easier to rationalize why police would need to use a Taser on an aggressive suspect than why they would need to shoot a suspect nine times and then Taser him, or toss a senior citizen to the ground when he isn’t even a suspect. This isn’t the most egregious example, but Canadian police are exhibiting some disturbing habits of late.
