Watch: Arthur Chu finally lost on Jeopardy!

The greatest Jeopardy! champ since Ken Jennings has finally been defeated.

Arthur Chu came into Wednesday’s game just shy of $300,000 in total winnings but his penchant for betting “true daily doubles” finally caught up with him when he lost all his money more than halfway through the episode on a philosophy clue.

Chu managed to make up a lot of lost ground against Diana Peloquin, who made the most of the other two daily doubles, but he still would have needed her to screw up on the final jeopardy question. As it turned out, it didn’t matter anyway because Chu gave the wrong answer. I guess it was just his time.

Although Chu’s 12-day run seemed to go on forever, he has actually been off the show since taping in November. His influence on the show, however, will be felt for a long time. In particular, it’ll be interesting to see if the “Forrest Bounce” strategy becomes the norm or if people go back to picking clues in sequential order.

Arthur Chu will return for the Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions in September.
