New union should focus on young retail workers

It’s a grim time in Canadian labour history. Unemployment is chronically high, currently at 7.2 per cent. The country lost 39,000 jobs in July, the fourth of the past seven months that has seen losses.For 15-to-24-year-olds it’s even worse: as of June, 13.8 per cent of young adults were out of work and looking.

Say goodbye to your SIN card

Buried in the federal government’s giant omnibus budget bill is a provision to scrap SIN cards. They will no longer be issued starting in 2014 in an effort to save some extra cash; they cost the government $1.5 million to issue each year.
