“Twitter is the bird, the bird is Twitter.”
In a blog post today, Twitter unveiled a new bird logo that will replace all of the company’s other identifying symbols, including the lowercase “t” used on most websites. This Prince-like move to simply become a symbol is being taken very seriously. The company doesn’t want anyone animating the bird, changing its colour or even rotating it. You’re not even allowed to use the original bubbly “twitter” logo. You know what, don’t even say the word “Twitter” anymore. Just make a bird noise, unless you like lawsuits.
Of course, no redesign is complete without a bit of douchiness. The logo is “crafted purely from three sets of overlapping circles — similar to how your networks, interests and ideas connect and intersect with peers and friends.”
“Whether soaring high above the earth to take in a broad view, or flocking with other birds to achieve a common purpose, a bird in flight is the ultimate representation of freedom, hope and limitless possibility.”
This just in: it’s just a fucking bird.
