A Moscow court has upheld a decision to ban gay pride parades for the next 100 years. The next gay pride parade can’t take place in Moscow until May 2112.
It’s pretty tough being gay in Russia these days. St. Petersburg’s municipal government recently passed a law against “gay propaganda” which now looks set to be nationalized. What exactly constitutes gay propaganda isn’t clear since the law is worded so vaguely. Two people holding a poster that read “being gay is normal” were arrested earlier this year in St. Petersburg.
Gay activist Nikolay Alekseyev was fined in May for a homemade poster that read, “Homosexuality is not a perversion, grass hockey and ice ballet are perversions.”
