Muslims in Port Coquitlam, B.C., were shocked last week to find piles and piles of bacon outside their mosque, probably as some sort of roundabout insult or attempt to intimidate the community.
The Canadian Press reports that this is the second such act of intimidation/waste targeting the Islamic Society of British Columbia mosque in the last 18 months.
Muslims, like Jews, do not eat pork and consider it haram, or sinful.
Also high on the list of sins: wasting bacon. C’mon! If you really wanted to offend Muslims, how about some drawings of the Prophet Muhammad fellating a goat? Or maybe just a burning cross? That one never goes out of style. But just leaving perfectly good bacon on someone’s doortstep is a whole new level of villainy, making this a hate crime against Muslims and bacon-lovers alike.
It’s unclear whether the culprit cooked the bacon or dumped it raw, although it’s hard to say which would be the bigger insult.
