Investigation into watered-down beer yields few answers

Well folks, my investigation into the public’s perception of this Budweiser Business has drifted off course.

While the beer of choice for North Americans may very well be the King of Beers, down here in Texas it truly is the Lone Star state. Every goddamn place you go is serving up king cans of Lone Star, and people are pounding them back as fast as the bar backs can crack them.

I have managed to talk to a few bartenders serving up Buds and Bud Lights. Either they’re completely ignorant of the situation, or just don’t want to listen to some yahoo with a Canadian accent ask them a bunch of questions when they’re trying to hustle up sales.

One doorman to a club with a big-ass Budweiser truck parked out front had a little more time to get into my questions. He’d never heard word of this “watered down business.”

“Kinda sounds like bullshit,” he told me with a laugh. “But I wouldn’t put it past ’em.”

Today is my last day here in Austin, before we attempt the long-ass hell drive back to Canada. I’ve about given up on bartenders shedding any light on this situation. But if I can stumble into some hole in the wall that isn’t packed to the tits with thirsty, sunburnt festival goers, I’ll ask them the old questions. This is also my final opportunity to get into the minds of Texans and other friendly folks who’ve made the trek to the Lone Star state’s capitol to get into it.

So far the ability to make new pals here is pretty dang easy. I’ve already experienced plenty of Southern hospitality, and the day is young yet. See you on the other side, friends.
